Iyalorixá Valnizia Pereira Oliveira (b. 1959) is the chief priestess, or mãe de santo, of the Terreiro do Cobre Candomblé temple in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil — a strongly activist ritual community that supports various community organizing and citizenship education projects.  Ms. Pereira received her religious training at the oldest continually recognized Candomblé temple in Brazil (Casa Branca), and is in the forefront of the movement to affirm the value of African religions in Brazil and to increase inter-religious dialogue among members of various faiths.
